Get Found on ChatGPT and Google AI

Follow on Instagram

More people now ask ChatGPT, Gemini or Google's AI answers before they ever search a website. If AI doesn't know who you are, you don't exist for those people. Here's the checklist I followed for my own name and business.

In this guide

  • A 5-minute test to see what AI says about you
  • The 3 foundations AI needs to understand you
  • A question-and-answer content plan
  • A monthly check to track progress

Step 1 — Test what AI says today (5 minutes)

Open ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity in separate tabs and ask each one:

Who is [your full name]? What does [your full name] do and who do they help? Who is a good [your profession] for [your audience] in [your city or country]?

Screenshot the answers. Wrong, vague or "I don't have information" — all three are normal at the start. This is your baseline.

Step 2 — Build the 3 foundations

1. One page that clearly says who you are

Your website's About page should state, in plain sentences: your full name, what you do, who you help, your proof (numbers, awards, media) and where you're based. AI tools pick up clear, factual sentences far more easily than clever slogans.

2. The same identity everywhere

  • Use exactly the same name across your website, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube and Facebook
  • Put your website link in every profile's bio
  • Link every profile from your website's footer, so they point at each other
  • Use the same one-line description everywhere ("Co-founder of X. I help Y achieve Z.")

3. Technical basics (ask whoever built your site, or your AI assistant)

  • Person schema on your site — structured data that tells search engines your name, job, photo and profiles
  • Your robots.txt must not block search and AI crawlers
  • A sitemap submitted to Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools
  • Optional: an llms.txt file — a plain-text summary of who you are for AI tools

Step 3 — Answer the questions people ask AI

AI answers questions. So the fastest way into its answers is to publish clear answers to the questions your audience asks. List 10 of them. For a coach, that looks like:

How do I scale a coaching business from 1 lakh to 10 lakh a month? How should I price my coaching program? When should I start running Meta ads? How do I get clients without many followers? How do I build a sales team?

Write one page per question. Start each with a 2–4 sentence direct answer, then explain. That's exactly how the Insights on this site are built.

Step 4 — Be mentioned elsewhere

AI trusts what many sources agree on. Podcasts, interviews, guest articles, award pages and directories that mention your name and link to your site all help. One genuine mention on a respected site is worth more than ten on spammy ones.

Step 5 — Re-test every month

Ask the same three questions on the first of every month and compare with your baseline. Changes usually take weeks, not days — AI systems refresh what they know at different speeds.

Do this today: run the test in Step 1 and fix your bios so every profile uses the same name and links to your website. Ten minutes, and it's the foundation for everything else.

Questions

Can I pay to appear in ChatGPT answers?

Not in the regular answers. Showing up there comes from clear, consistent information about you across the web and content that answers real questions.

How long does it take for AI to know who I am?

It varies. Some AI search tools read the live web and can pick up changes within weeks; others update more slowly. Re-test monthly.

Is this different from SEO?

It builds on SEO. Clear pages, a sitemap and Search Console still matter, but AI search rewards direct answers, consistent identity and mentions across many sources even more.
